The discovery of new active compounds is risky, time consuming and costly. With an increasing need for novel antimicrobial solutions due to increased antibiotic resistance, supply is now outstripped by demand and traditional approaches to drug discovery no longer offer a cost-effective way of tackling the problem.
The Syntopix approach identifies new antimicrobial solutions in a cost-effective manner. By focusing on the repositioning of known compounds, or combinations of compounds, with a history of use in humans we uncover previously unknown antimicrobial properties and synergies.
With well-documented pharmacology and toxicity profiles, this approach vastly decreases resource expenditure during R&D, both in terms of time and money. The net result is a more efficient route through discovery, pre-clinical and clinical development which increases the probability of success.
